What we collect, why we collect it, and how to make us stop.
The Rising Storyis a Data Fiduciary under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. This page explains what personal data we process and the rights you have over it.
What we collect
Your email address, if you subscribe to the newsletter. That is the only personal data we ask you for.
Basic analytics about how pages are used — which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from, which device type. This is not used to identify you.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share our subscriber list with anyone.
Why we collect it
Your email address is used for one purpose: sending you the newsletter you asked for. We do not use it for anything else, and we do not pass it to advertisers.
Consent
We ask for your consent separately from these terms, in plain language, at the point where you give us your email. Consent is not bundled into anything else, and nothing on this site is conditional on giving it.
We record what you agreed to and when, so that we can show the basis on which we hold your data.
Subscription uses double opt-in: after you sign up we email you a confirmation link, and you are not added to the list until you click it. This means an address cannot be added by someone else.
Withdrawing consent
Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Using it removes you immediately — no reason required and no confirmation step. You can also write to us and we will do it for you.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you may ask us to:
- Tell you what personal data of yours we hold and what we have done with it
- Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
- Erase your data where we no longer need it
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you are unable to
Write to desk@therisingstory.com and we will respond within the statutory period.
Grievance officer
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you may raise it with our grievance officer at desk@therisingstory.com. If we do not resolve it, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe we retain a minimal record of the withdrawal, so that we can prove we honoured it and so we do not accidentally re-add you.
Cookies and analytics
Essential storage — remembering your theme and your cookie choice — is kept in your browser and never leaves it.
Beyond that, nothing non-essential loads until you agree. If you decline, those scripts are never requested at all, not merely hidden, so no third party is contacted on your behalf.
Where we use privacy-preserving analytics, they set no identifiers and collect no personal data — only which pages were read and roughly where readers came from. Analytics that do identify a browser run only with your consent.
You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. Reopening it clears the previous decision and starts with everything switched off.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy materially we will say so on this page and, where the change affects how we use your email address, tell subscribers directly.
